Baggage Allowances
Whilst many clients find the baggage allowances for their trips are quite adequate and are not a crucial element in their choice between the fare options our consultants offer, the variety of allowances relating to the various fares and airlines serving the routes between the UK and the Indian subcontinent frequently requires a more detailed understanding before the most appropriate carrier and fare can be selected.
We therefore list below the latest details for the more popular airlines serving these routes.
Air France
Cabin Baggage: 1 piece of baggage (measuring max 55x35x25 cm) including a garment bag + 1 accessory (examples: handbag, laptop computer, camera, etc.) weighing a total of 12 kg. For more information click here.
Hold Baggage: 20kg. Excess is £24.00 per extra kg. For more information click here.
Air India
Cabin Baggage: Ensure carry-on bags in the cabin do not exceed the dimensions of 55x40x20cms and a maximum weight of 8 kgs. For more information click here.
Hold Baggage: 46 kgs per bag from London. For other UK departure airports, please check with your Medway Travel consultant. There is no limit to the number of pieces of luggage. However, the weight of one piece must not exceed more than 32 kgs. Please note: checked in baggage for infants is 10 kgs.
British Airways
Cabin Baggage: 2 piece hand baggage allowance for all flights: one standard-sized bag - maximum size of the bag must not exceed 56x45x25cm (22x17.5x9.85in) (including wheels, pockets and handles). In addition, one laptop sized bag, handbag or briefcase. A 23kg (51lbs) maximum bag weight applies and you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead lockers in the aircraft cabin unaided. Standard Baggage Allowance : 1 piece weighing no more than 23kg. Extra bags of 23kg can be purchased online at the cost of £34.00 per bag, and at the airport at the cost of £40.00 per bag. Emirates
Cabin Baggage: 1 piece of carry-on baggage, subject to the following size and weight limitations: Handbag: 22x15x8 ins (55x38x20 cm). Weight must not exceed 15lbs (7kg). Duty free purchases of liquor, cigarettes and perfume in reasonable quantities are also permitted in addition to the above. For more information click here.
Hold Baggage: Total weight of up to 30kg. Skywards Silver and Gold members are entitled to an additional free baggage allowance. Gulf Air
Cabin Baggage: Economy Class - One bag (maximum dimensions 45 x 40 x 30 cm or 17 x 15 x 12 inches) Total weight: 6 kg
Infant (All Classes): One bag (maximum dimensions 44 x 35 x 20 cm or 18 x 14 x 8 inches) Total weight: 3 kg
Hold Baggage: Checked baggage allowances on tickets issued wholly on Gulf Air operated flights - Economy Class passengers is 30kg.
Jet Airways
Cabin Baggage: The Government of India regulations permits only one piece of cabin baggage on board, the dimensions of which should not exceed 115 linear cms and weight should not exceed 7 kgs. For departures out of London, only 1 piece is allowed. For more information click here.
Standard Baggage Allowance : 28kg. However, certain fares permit an allowance of 46KG - please check with your Medway Travel consultant, or refer to your itinerary. For more information click here.
The following also applies for London departures:
Overweight Charge: GBP 40 per bag for any piece weighing between 23kgs to 32kgs.
Extra Baggage Charge: First extra bag up to 23kgs over the free allowance: GBP 40 per bag. Further extra bag up to 23kgs each: GBP 90 per bag.
Kuwait Airways
Hold Baggage: 20kg
Certain fares permit an allowance of 40kg - please check with your Medway Travel consultant, or refer to your itinerary.
Lufthansa
Cabin Baggage: Each piece of hand baggage may not be larger than 55x40x20 cm and may not weigh more than 8 kg. An exception are foldable garment bags. They count as hand baggage up to a size of 57x54x15 cm. For more information click here.

Oman Aviation
Cabin Baggage: For safety reasons and restricted space Oman Air allows maximum of one hand baggage to be carried on board the aircraft which should not exceed 7 kilos.
Hand baggage in excess of 7 kilos must be checked-in. Maximum dimensions shall not exceed 45 inches or 115 cm ., approximately 9 x 16 x 20 inches or 23 x 41 x 51 cm.
Hold Baggage: Economy Class 30 kilograms. Size and weight restrictions: The maximum accepted weight for any single piece of baggage is 32 Kg. Any piece of baggage exceeding this weight allotment shall not be accepted for check-in. Total Maximum Outside Linear Dimensions (length + width + height) may not exceed 158 cms or 62 inches. Bags larger than the size specified may require special handling.
Qatar
Cabin Baggage: 1 piece not exceeding 7kg (50x37x25cm). For more information click here.
Hold Baggage: 23 kg. The dimension of each piece of baggage must not exceed 158cm (total dimension = length + height + width). Please note that we cannot accept a bag heavier than 32kg (70lbs). Sri Lankan Airlines
Cabin Baggage: On Economy Class, you are allowed one piece of hand luggage bag measuring no more than 18"x14"x6" (46x36x20 cm) and weighing no more than 7kg.
Hold Baggage: Checked luggage is 30KG. The weight of checked baggage is subject to our conditions limitations and you will be required to pay a charge for carriage of baggage in excess of the permitted Free Baggage Allowance. However, the maximum weight per piece of luggage should not exceed 32kg.
