Air France to introduce baggage charges
Air France economy passengers without premium Flying Blue status will have to pay €50 to check in a second bag on flights between Europe and the US from this month.
The new fee came into effect on November 1, and will see economy passengers on flights from Europe to the US being charged €50 for a second checked bag weighing up to 23kg (or $50 for flights from the US to Europe). In addition the charge for checking in a bag weighing between 23kg and 32kg will double from €50/$50 to €100/$100.
Silver, Gold and Platinum members of the carrier’s Flying Blue loyalty scheme, and Elite members of the Skyteam frequent flyer programme will continue to be able to check in two pieces up to 23kg without charge. Passengers flying in first, business and Air France’s new Premium Voyageur class can check in two pieces up to 32kg without charge.
The new charge follows a similar move by BA, which saw a charge for a second piece of checked luggage for economy passengers on most transatlantic routes come into force on October 7.
