A 'Something Doing All The Time' Vacation
All Dude Ranch holidays are priced according to your exact requirements. However, as a guide, an average cost for a dude ranch holiday would be in the region of £1,730 per person, based on two sharing and including return flights from the UK, ranch accommodation, all meals, riding, ranch activities, sales taxes, ranch gratuities and transfers in many destinations.
While riding is a big thing, dude ranches are geared to catering for a wide variety of interests and are ideal for those people who want a 'something-doing-all-the-time' vacation.
A full weekly programme of Western activities is usually included in your holiday price - such as Wild West shows, rodeo visits, square dances, barbecues and a host of sports and outdoors activities. Many ranches have Child Counsellors during the main season.
As guest numbers tend to be higher than at other ranches, meals are usually taken family style - all together. When it comes to riding, abilities can range from novice to experienced at most Dude Ranches making this option a real family vacation.
If you do not yet know which destination you wish to visit to enjoy your ranch experience, Contact Us with your holiday wishes and requirements, and our experienced Travel Consultants will suggest the most suitable ranches for you, according to when you wish to travel, budget, riding experience and what other activities you may be keen to enjoy whilst at the ranch.
Alternatively, if you know which US state you want to visit, but are unsure of the ranch options available, please see below for inspiration, and Contact Us to discuss your enquiry in further detail.
We typically find that clients looking for ranch holidays also want to incorporate other activities such as Grand Canyon visits, National Park stays, Las Vegas breaks, and more - the possibilities are endless. Met some really lovely people, one of whom only lives about 10 miles up the road from me!
Thanks to you & Lesley for sorting it out for me. Apologies to Lesley if I gave her a headache before I finally booked it - lol.
Hopefully be in contact next year.

Wyoming
Laramie River Ranch
This family run a Dude Ranch on the Colorado/Wyoming border which offers genuine western hospitality far from the tensions of city life. Horseback riding is their speciality but they also have exceptional fly fishing, a unique naturalist programme, comfortable accommodation and excellent food.
Accommodation
The lodge maintains the charm of the old structure while providing guests with the modern comforts we have all come to expect including private bathrooms, climate controls in each room, and handicapped accessibility. The "great room" is a favorite place for playing cards, reading books, and relaxing in front of the fireplace. There are ample public spaces for guests to mingle with each other and with the staff.
Guest rooms in the lodge are great if you like more community than a private cabin can offer. You can read quietly by the fire when everyone else has gone off to bed or come down to the kitchen for an early cup of coffee or tea. There are four rooms downstairs and three upstairs. Each has its own unique character - some are small and cozy while others are larger and can accommodate whole families. Daily maid service leaves you more time to get out and enjoy the west.
Five historic log cabins provide the balance of the accommodations at the Laramie River Dude Ranch. One and two bedroom units are scattered on the bank of the river and along LaGarde Creek just across the walking-bridge from the lodge. Originally constructed of materials cut from local forests, these cabins recall a time when pioneers literally built their homes by hand.
The cabins provide modern comforts similar to those found in the lodge. Fresh flowers and your own personal cookie jar are freshened daily when your rooms are cleaned. Each cabin has a comfortable screened-in porch in which to relax or entertain friends.
The one-bedroom units have one built-in queen and one built-in twin bed. They are quite comfortable for couple and families with just one child. The two-bedroom units have one room with two built-in twins and a second room with a king bed. With advance notice we can arrange to reconfigure the second room to have two twin beds as well.
Dining
Outdoor activities and fresh mountain air encourage healthy appetites. Whether it's on the trail or at the ranch, meals are an event at the Laramie River Dude Ranch.Their kitchen crew prepares ranch baked breads, fresh salads, fruits and vegetables, delicious entrees, and desserts which keep you coming back for more. They're happy to accommodate special diets with advance notice and vegetarian alternatives are available at every meal.
Horseback Riding
If you love to horseback ride - or if you have always wanted to learn, you'll love the Laramie River Ranch! The horse program will exhilarate riders of every ability. You will walk, trot, and canter across tens of thousands of acres of Colorado's spectacular Rocky Mountains. You will fall in love with the variety of terrain at your disposal - beautiful vistas, interesting geologic formations, open parks, wooded areas, and abundant wildlife.
Experienced wranglers accompany small groups of riders to provide the personal attention and instruction necessary to ensure that you enjoy your days in the saddle.
Morning rides leave the ranch at nine and return for lunch. Afternoon rides leave by one-thirty and return about five.
Adventuresome riders can take a pack lunch and spend the whole day exploring the sage plains, the aspen topped ridges, or the dark timber of the Roosevelt National Forest.
Special brunch or lunch rides, team penning, and instructional rides are scheduled each week. Because you're not limited to trails, much of your time is spent riding side by side.
Activities
The naturalist program provides families with numerous activities to share - hikes, birding, wild flowers, star gazing, orienteering, and more. Other programs allow kids to leave their parents and go off to explore some aspect of the west with a responsible guide. Adults are welcome, but not required. The river is an enticing place to play on warm afternoons. The swimming hole behind the lodge is a favorite. It's deep enough for a swim, or a float in an inner-tube. And the hot tub is just a few feet away if you want to follow your swim with a warm soak.
And if you are looking for some white water excitement, check out Rocky Mountain Adventures. They offer river raft trips on various rivers around Colorado. The ranch location makes a raft trip during your stay one long day. So we suggest you plan a trip for the morning of the day you arrive, the afternoon of the day you leave, or for another day before you visit the ranch.
At least once a week evening entertainment comes to the Laramie River Dude Ranch. It could be a cowboy picking on his guitar - and the audience, or it could be a fiddle player. It could be a cowboy poet. It's always fun for the whole family.
Square dancing is alive and well at the Laramie River Dude Ranch. Everyone is invited including the crew. No experience necessary - the more mistakes you make the more fun you're going to have!!
Wyoming Pick and Mix
If you are keen to extend your holiday after your ranch experience, various fly-drive itineraries can be provided for you to explore the stunning scenery of Wyoming and the array of outdoor activities it has to offer, including those mentioned below...
Grand Teton National Park - Grand Teton National Park is located in northwestern Wyoming, just south of Yellowstone National Park, and just north of the town of Jackson. The park's mountain range is very popular among climbers, hikers and photographers. Grand Teton National Park offers hiking, camping, climbing, boating, kayaking and numerous photography opportunities. A road winds through the park, but the best way to experience the park is to take one of its shorter trails.
Fishing - With 4,200 crystalline lakes sand 27,000 miles of blue-ribbon, fishable streams, Wyoming is the ultimate fishing and fly fishing destination. Expert anglers and eager beginners alike can find a fisherman's dream along the clear waters scattered across the state. Wyoming embraces this gift, ensuring that capable guides and outfitters are as plentiful as the fish waiting to be caught. Fishing in Wyoming is truly a unique experience. In the unspoiled wilderness, you're likely to encounter more wildlife than other anglers, allowing you to find your own private fishing paradise.
Hiking - With seven national forests, two national parks, numerous state parks and more than 18 million acres of public land, hikers have plenty to do and see throughout the Cowboy State. Whether you want to scale a mountain or stroll across the prairie, Wyoming has the perfect hike for you. With hundreds of trails to choose from, it’s hard to narrow it down to just a few!
Golf - Nearly 100 courses are scattered throughout the state. The high altitudes of Wyoming allows the shots stay aloft almost 10 percent longer than the same shot made at sea level. Now that's something to drive for.
Scenic Float Trips - Embarking on a scenic river trip means one thing: relaxation. The slow meander of the water and the lazy dip of a paddle are your ticket to rest and leisure. Along with an experienced guide and a serene state of mind, this is your chance to marvel at nature and take it nice and easy on the water.
River Rafting - Don’t let its calm rivers fool you. Wyoming is also home to canyons with stretches of whitewater offering enough bounce and splash for even the most thrill-seeking, expert rafters. And if you’ve never rafted before? Not to worry. Experienced guides who are passionate about whitewater will teach you everything you’ll need to know.
White Water Rafting - As winter loses its grasp on the landscape, snow turns to runoff, water levels rise, and whitewater rafting adventures begin in Wyoming. Whether you’re a first-time rafter with a family in tow or a seasoned veteran of whitewater, you’ll find a rafting trip designed for people like you in Wyoming. There are plenty of rafting outfitters to meet your needs, and they’ll provide you with all the gear you need as well as their expert instruction. With half-day, full-day and overnight excursions, you can choose the duration and intensity of your trip. The rafting season runs from mid-May to late September, and the highest flows come at the beginning of the season as snow melts into the rivers.
Ballooning - If you are one of those who find hot air balloons fascinating, you've probably dreamt of going for a balloon ride, or maybe even piloting one. Hot air balloon rides are one of the most fascinating experiences you will ever have. The roar of the burners as you rise into the sky, then the silence of floating, drifting with the winds, looking down on trees, beaches, farms and fields.
