Oberammergau's Passion Play 2010 Testimonials

Dear Mel

Thank you for your message.  We had a tremendous time both in Fussen and in Oberammergau.  The whole trip was very efficiently managed by DERTOURS.  Our accommodation in both places was excellent and, of course, the Passion Play was breathtaking.  We would like to thank you for managing to arrange this trip very late in the booking cycle.  We enjoyed it immensely.

I'll be in touch in due course regarding next year.

Regards

Paul

Hi Astra,

We had a really wonderful time thankyou. All your arrangements for us worked so well. At Stansted we asked if Frances could have special assistance, and the help we received was so helpful and courteous. She was whisked by wheelchair through to the plane, and the same the other side. The helper showed us where to catch the S Bahn train to the main Munich station, and we easily found our train to Murnau, and then onto Oberammergau. We found our accommodation easily, and were delighted to see how near the theatre we were. Our hostess was charming, and all our meals were really good, as was our room. We were warmly  welcomed wherever we went by the villagers, and met many who were involved directly in the play. The play was superb, and although we had chosen the cheapest seats, we could see really well. It was a fantastic , so professional, so moving. We had plenty of time to explore the beautiful village, until  it was time to return. Following your advice regarding the time, we had an unhurried, easy journey. At the airport, we were fortunate to have special assistance again, which saved Frances extra walking.

Thankyou so much, we were delighted with your service, and your helpfulness, and professionalism, we will definitely recommend you to others, and hope to use your service again in the not-too-distant future.

Kind regards,

Pam Williams

Hi Mel,

Everything went according to plan and we had a great time, even the weather was good.

Flights were on time (typical German efficiency). Tried to hide the newspaper front page of Spitfires for 70th anniversary of Battle of Britain as we were flying Lufthansa !

Hotel Feldmeier v nice. Good sized rooms with balconies, though not near each other. Very Germanic. Food very pork based but that was fine by us and we all really enjoyed it.

Play all it is meant to be. We were on row 9 which is pretty good out of an audience of 5,000. It is worth taking a v small torch as the end of the evening session is in the dark and so you can't read the translation at that point.

Had a good day after play. Went up highest mountain in Germany on train and cable car and then hotel Treff lpina in Garmisch-P was v v nice. Again rooms not near each other even though you requested it but they gave us a free drink instead!

Weather was warm and sunny until last day so we were v v lucky.

Thanks for all your help,

Catherine

Hi Astra,

Apologies for not responding sooner - we have just returned from Devon as the school term starts today.  The holiday in Germany was fantastic.

The highlight was of course the Passion Play performance in Oberammergau - whoever booked the tickets on your behalf excelled themselves.  The auditorium seated in excess of 4,000 (can't remember if it was 4,300 or 4,700) and we had front row tickets centre stage.  This meant plenty of leg room and as the stage wasn't high it felt like we were on the stage with the performers (it also meant that David had to stifle a yawn by the end of the performance) joking aside it was excellent and all we had hoped for.

Hotels were all good as were the trains.  We only had one small incident when there was a delay on the local train when leaving Oberammergau which meant we missed our connecting train to Heidelberg - this was easily sorted and we just got the next available train.  On the very last day we only had 6 - 8 minutes between connections and that was quite tight as we had to find platform details etc but we managed ok - so not really an issue more an observation.

The separate wallets for each element of travel were also an added bonus.

I can only sum up by saying Thank You - we thoroughly enjoyed it and would have no hesitation either using your company again or recommending you to others.

Regards

Jane & David McAuliffe

We had a wonderful time thank you and everything worked like clockwork.  The hotel was very busy but completely organised and very friendly.  The food was excellent and there was plenty of it.  The shuttle bus system was really welcome to save walking into town all the time.

The Passion Play was totally amazing and an experience I will never forget.  We spoke to lots of people from all over the world some of whom had booked their tickets 2 years ago.  We were thrilled therefore that we managed to get our tickets at such short notice and the seats were 12 rows from the front: just near enough to see everything but not too close that we could smell all the cattle poo left behind by the goats and camels. (My husband's comment not mine).

Thank you for all your help.

Kind regards

Elaine and Kim Sainsbury

Dear Astra,

Thank you for your enquiry about our holiday.

Please accept my apologies for not having replied more rapidly.

We seem to have been catching up ever since we returned and we are meant to have retired!

We would each like to thank you and the team at Medway Travel for your help, assistance and professionalism over our short break in Oberammergau.

We had a marvellous few days including, of course, our experience of The Passion Play.

Every arrangement and contact made for us by Medway was excellent and when we next travel in Europe we shall certainly include your name amongst the agents through whom to make enquiries.

We shall also pass on your details to appropriate friends and family.

Meanwhile, thank you once again,

Regards,

Hi Mel,

Just want to thank you for all the arrangements and help you gave to us for our fabulous holiday. Everything went according to plan.  Both the hotels were excellent.  The Passion Play was brilliant and we couldn't have had better seats.  We thought we were so lucky because of the number of people in the theatre, we could see the faces of the players in detail.  The hotel owner (who chatted quite a lot to us and called me his younger sister from England!) loaned everyone blankets and cushions.

Once again Mel, thank you for making it a memorable holiday of a lifetime.

Regards,

Mary

Hi Astra!

Many thanks for your email - and I've just seen Kyla's reply.  Well - what a fantastic and well-organised trip!!  Everything ran like clockwork and the play and accommodation were just fantastic!

I'll definitely be using Medway Travel again as your help and (at times nightmarish thanks to us) co-ordination was superb!  My only problem is that I'm well and truly homesick for Germany (lived there for 20 years); and I'm trying to adjust to being back here!!!

Many thanks for all your help Astra - we were all greatly impressed.

Take care and talk again SOON!!!

Regards

Jane

Dear Mel

Many thanks for your email. Mary has asked me to let you know that they had a wonderful time. They had the very best of seats and they particularly thought that the hotel you arranged for them in Munich at the end of their holiday was extremely good value. The weather was also beautiful so all in all they had a great time. This is in no small way down to your organisation so we are all most grateful for your patience and expertise.

With many thanks and the very best of wishes

Anne

Dear Mel,

A splendid trip. Bavaria was looking its springtime best. The weather was beautiful. The Passion Play was a fabulous experience and one not to be missed. 500 people on stage in the crowd scenes and live animals!

A very nice hotel and the building works did not get in the way at all.

Thank you very much indeed. A wonderful experience.

Regards

Dear Astra,

Just to let you know we all had a wonderful holiday in Munich and Oberammeragau.  Everything went to plan with all the taxi transfers and our tickets for the Passion Play.

The hotels were very comfortable, especially K and K Harras in Munich and it was easy to get an underground to the centre.  We bought a ticket for four of us from the hotel and this enabled us to travel on all public transport for one day.  We used it for the underground and for a bus ride.

The hotel at Ettal was very nice but more basic than the one at Munich.  We got a free shuttle bus to and from Oberammeragau so that was easy.  Our seats at the theatre were five rows from the front (at the side) and so we had very good views. The meals before and during the play were very substantial.

We had a good walk on our last day from Ettal to Oberammeragau through woodland with nice views of the village of Ettal.  The footpath was easy to find from the hotel.

I thought you might like to know about our holiday as the information might be useful for other people.

Thanks for all your help.

Best wishes from

Philippa

Dear Mel,

I think the word "enjoyed" would be an understatement. Shearing's organisation was down to a fine art - we were picked up in Staines, transferred to our luxury coach in Hythe and looked after from then on. The suitcases were delivered and collected to our rooms and other than traffic jams on the M25 and Autobahns, all went like clockwork.

We stayed in 4 different accommodations but all were excellent, ensuite with half-board, with 3 or 4 course dinners and sometimes free drinks. The day trips were also excellent to Innsbruck, Salzburg, Karlsburg, Kufstein, Swarovski Crystal works and Rattenburg, as was the whole holiday.

The Oberammergau Passion Play was then even better. How this little town puts on a performance involving 2200 people in the play as well as feeding and sleeping up to 10,000 guests per night is unbelievable. The Play was superb with dramatic scenery, costumes and sometimes 1000 actors and animals on stage. I am still trying to work out how they nailed Jesus and the two others to the crosses - there is no sign of anything but nails - it was so realistic. They had perfect organisation for the food and accommodation and we had full board with shuttle buses where needed. Amazing!!

Even the weather was perfect almost unbroken sunshine during the 10 days and showers on two nights to freshen things up.

Thanks for all you did in the organisation.

Best wishes

Mike & Diane

Thank you Astra - we had a lovely trip and it all went well. The information and itinerary we received prior to departure was very comprehensive and Medway Travel were very helpful and friendly. We had a wonderful break - Munich is a lovely city and easy to get around. We would highly recommend seeing the Passion Play at Oberammergau - a fantastic experience, but you'll have to wait 10 years for the next one!

We would just have liked to have been able to spend a little longer in Oberammergau!

Kind regards

Sara

Dear Mel,

We had a wonderful time.  The hotel was excellent and the organisation of tickets, meals and buses was fantastic, true German efficiency!  The weather was kind to us.  The play was amazing, with a cast of 700 villagers and animals, the acting and choir were brilliant, and we would defiantly recommend it.  Thank you for all your organisation, hope to use you again.

Best wishes

Lyn

Dear Mel

I am now back home and have your email of May 20th and would like to say that the Passion Play performance was quite outstanding as also all of the arrangements that you so kindly made for accommodation in Oberammergau and also provision of taxi about which I had to worry you for an alteration arising from cancellation of BA return flight on 19th May.

Although the accommodation supplied by Hotel Alte Post for Ann and Penny was superior to the Hotel Wolf accommodation used by me, I did prefer Hotel Wolf which had a more Austrian ambiance and although I ate at both places I preferred the food and service at Hotel Wolf.

Although somewhat rushed I must congratulate you and Astra on the quite outstanding arrangements made and services rendered and if given the opportunity will praise Medway Travel whenever so able.

Kind regards

Gordon
